Easy to Use
Everything required to mix solder cream is contained in each FreshMix
Solder Cream Kit. Powder from foil packages, sealed in an inert
atmosphere, is poured into plastic jars of flux. Because most
refrigerated solder creams must be stirred and softened before
use, mixing FreshMix powders and fluxes will add no more than
a few minutes to set-up time on your PCB production line.
Q. How Easy Is It?
A. Very Easy! You simply follow
the instructions that are included with each kit. Everything is
premeasured. All you do is cut open the powder package, add it
to the flux and mix with the tool provided. Office workers were
given the kits and, without assistance, made perfect cream.
Q. How Much Time Does It Take?
A. Not much more than you already
spend with premixed paste. Most manufacturers recommend that you
mix their paste for 2-3 minutes before you put it on the printer;
FreshMix only takes a few minutes more.
Q. How Safe Is it?
A. Very Safe. You need only to follow
standard industrial hygienic practices. There are practically
no fines (particles under 20µ ) in the powder; therefore,
there is little chance for airborne particles. A worker with no
previous experience in cream manufacture was given 8 kits, and
told only to follow the enclosed instructions. Air sampling devices
were set up all around the work area and on the worker. After
two straight hours of making FreshMix, the filters were sent to
an independent lab for analysis. Results showed lead levels were
below the limits of detection, which is 40 times lower than the
OSHA PEL.
Q. What Comes in Each Kit?
A. Each FreshMix kit contains 5
jars of premeasured cream flux, 5 bags of UniSphere powder packed
in an inert atmosphere, gloves, work surface covers and a mixing
tool. Each kit makes 2,500g of fresh cream. Also included are
mixing instructions, a Certificate of Compliance and Material
Safety Data sheets.
Q. What Is UniSphere Powder?
A. UniSphere powder is a special
type of powder from AMT, the world leader in solder powder. UniSphere
means a tighter distribution than current standards. Particles
are more uniform in size, giving you more consistent printing,
releasing and reflow characteristics. A process specially developed
by AMT produces a minimal, uniform oxide coating that protects
the powder and reduces solder balling.
Q. What Formulations Are Available?
A. FreshMix is available in WS,
NC, RMA and FRS formulations with type-3 or type-4 powder distributions.
Call AMTECH with your specific requirements.
Q. How Do I Store It?
A.FreshMix kits require no refrigeration
and no special storage consideration. Just make sure the kit is
at the same temperature as its surroundings when you are ready
to mix solder cream.
Q. What Is the Shelf Life?
A. Before mixing, we guarantee the
powder and flux will meet the specifications for a minimum of
one year from the date of manufacture. They will remain fresh
until you open them. The powder is packaged in an inert atmosphere
that will protect the powder for years. Similarly packaged fluxes
still preformed after 5 years under warehouse storage (40º
- 95º F).
After mixing, the creams will have a shelf life of 3 - 6 months,
depending on storage and handling conditions. Refrigeration of
mixed materials is recommended for storage periods of longer than
1 week.
Q. What About Quality Control
A. Each lot of powder is tested
and each lot of flux is tested. Then a sample batch of cream is
made and tested. When made according to directions the cream will
match stated specifications.
Q. What About Costs?
A. FreshMix does not require cold
packs, which add weight. Therefore, shipping costs will be less.
This also means that FreshMix can go by ground carrier, resulting
in additional savings. There are also reduced manufacturing costs,
the savings from which are passed along to you.
Q. What About Premixed Cream?
A. AMTECH still provides premixed
cream for its customers. You can use FreshMix as your backup when
that unexpected job needs to be run on Sunday.
